I remembered the old D&D spell “Burning Hands” and its description of a wide, flat pane of fire extending from the fingertips. Instead of looking like the Mega Buster and just being big cylinders, I went with wide, flat projectors that would shoot out sheets of flame. My last idea was to rethink his flame cannons. I’ll use red and silver somewhere else, I guess. Red and black just felt better, heavier, tougher – cooler, frankly. While I really wanted to keep his red and silver color scheme, I just couldn’t find a way to make it work that felt strong enough. I used repeated spiky forms to make him look dangerous and to repeat the visual idea of flames throughout his body. I wanted to keep it simple and sleek, bringing him much closer to Mega Man’s armored aesthetic, but bulk up his shoulders and upper torso. I set out to make Fire Man look like a dark knight. What I started to see in him, though, was that his lighter-head design also reminded me of the helmets knights wore a very medieval armor look. So I didn’t want to take too much away from what made Fire Man cool (hot?) in the first place. Realizing I could do more than just the main guy, I started ruminating on other characters and soon enough had to put pen to tablet and get going. I was reading the Mega Man comics (which I highly recommend) and kept wanting to tackle a Mega Man redesign, but I started having really clear ideas of what I could do with Fire Man, too. He’s also the design that really gave juice to my wanting to do this project. Ask any young guy which of the Captain Planet rings he’d want and (after he asked you what the hell Captain Planet was and laughed at how old you are) he’d pick fire. Compared to how dumpy most of the MM1 bosses were, Fire Man looked ready to throw down. I mean… look at him! It’s both a clever pun (his head is based on an old lighter) and a pretty sleek, tough set of armor. Today, we’re turning up the heat with Fire Man!įire Man was probably the coolest design in Mega Man 1. How do you do, fellow teens? These seem to start on a fairly high level right from the beginning. More trials with better build up would have been nice. Why only 8 categories for button settings? Why the abstract button naming? Why "strong" "fierce" and "forward" instead of tried-and-tested MP, HP and MK etc.? It's very confusing when you're doing the trials, not to mention it sounds incredibly dumb.Ģ. To be honest, and to my big surprise, I find myself doing better online than I had expected (not good mind you, but better than expected), despite some serious connection issue starting to rear their head.Īlso, after spending some time with it, there are some things that annoy me:ġ. I personally consider myself to be awful at the game (can't parry to save my life and don't know any combos) yet I'm still winning much more often than I do in SSF4. My biggest surprise is just how bad some people suck. Played some more of this last week, and I'm still enjoying it. Those gripes aside, SF3-3 is a great game with some really different characters. It's also a little obnoxious that Capcom wants to charge you $0.99 for the privilege of unlocking the last two pages of dip switches should you not feel like beating the game with every character. I'm hoping the connection issues are just because this is brand new, but some of the other things seem silly. You can't create your own lobbies for ranked matches (only for player matches), matchmaking takes forever, you can see who each person is selecting on the character select screen, and connection speeds seem worse than in SSF4. My biggest complaints with it so far stem from the interface which seems to be a step backward from SSF4. I had a blast playing online on the first day because I was actually winning, something I expect to change once more hardcore fans get on. Game looks blurry/muddy as hell when stretched to 16:9, but it's more fun to play than I remembered, and it's fun seeing just how much this game influenced SF4, even though SF4 is much more accessible and less technical. ![]() ![]() Now the New Orleans Pelicans emblem has a non-standard form and blue background, with the inscription “New Orleans,” written in white at the top. Also, Pelican has become the symbol of the basketball team. Dark blue, gold, red and white colors have become the new ones. New Orleans Pelicans debuted in the 2013-2014 season, with a redesigned logo that is completely different from the retro versions. The Hornets nickname returned to its historical homeland and became the basis for another team of the same name. The rebranding allowed the club to split from the franchise that originated in Charlotte and moved to New Orleans. In December 2012, the club announced that it would change its name to Pelicans. The only change was the replacement of the inscription “Charlotte H,” located on the chest of the hornet, to the inscription “NOLA” (“New Orleans”). Blue and navy blue colors became brighter on the picture, and the ball acquired more natural contours and color. In 2009, the cartoon hornet became similar to the team’s official mascot, Hugo the Hornet. 2009 – 2013Ĭhanges in the logo in 2009 – 2013 were made to improve graphics because the layout and design were taken from the previous logo. After the relocation, the emblem remained almost unchanged: the designers only repainted the ball yellow, updated the name of the city, transformed the font and made the letter “H” on the hornet’s chest more noticeable. In the 2002-2003 season, the franchise moved to Louisiana and became known as the New Orleans Hornets. The same function is performed by the inscription “CHARLOTTE HORNETS,” divided into two parts and surrounds the drawing above and below. They associate the logo with a basketball club. There are also attributes of a sports theme: white sneakers and a brown ball. The image is anthropomorphic because the insect has arms and legs. The early Charlotte Hornets emblem depicts a blue hornet with a sharp sting. Designers added two minor logos reflecting local specificity – Fleur-de-lis (symbol of Bourbonian France, whose colonists built the city) and trumpet (symbol of jazz) with the abbreviation NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana). In 2007, the Hornets returned to New Orleans, and a year later, they slightly changed their brand, making the blue color slightly bluer. The toponym New Orleans disappeared from the home form, but an emblem with the letters OKC (Oklahoma City) appeared. At the same time, the team officially got quite an overwhelming name New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. The Hornets had to go to Oklahoma City, where they spent two seasons, while their arena was restored in New Orleans. And in 2005, Hurricane Katrina came to New Orleans, and further staying in this city was poorly compatible with basketball and life. An alternative yellow form appeared in 2004. The primary colors remained the same, only the gold one was added. In New Orleans, the name Hornets no longer had the same historical background, but the sentimental team’s owner decided to keep it. It happened in 2002 when New Orleans – a merry, cosmopolitan, brilliant, and impoverished American region became the city they moved in. Conservative charlottes unanimously hated slightly extravagant Shinn, and since he wasn’t going to sell his brainchild, it was decided to move the Hornets to another city. The Hornets wanted the city authorities to help them build a new arena, but officials refused to cooperate with George Shinn, the team owner. The team got some problems at the beginning of the new millennium. “This city is a true hornet’s nest,” said Marquis of Cornwallis, the British general. This name is directly related to the city’s history, whose inhabitants fiercely resisted British troops during the war for the independence of the American colonies. Therefore, less than five years later, such basketball team as Vancouver and Detroit, the hockey San Jose, the baseball Florida and football Jacksonville showed off the same indescribable shade of blue.Īs for the name, the team’s owner originally planned to call the club Charlotte Spirit, but the fans voted for the Hornets. But the 90s were right around the corner, so very soon, the new team’s innovation was picked up by other organizations. In the natural environment, the greenish-blue color is not seen along with the purple one. But people were truly surprised by the colors of the new club, which no one had ever seen in such a combination before. So the arrival of the NBA in 1989 wasn’t a surprise. Until 2002, it was based in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is considered to be one of the most basketball states in America. ![]() ![]() Though neuron shapes vary greatly, every neuron houses its nucleus in a region known as the cell body (also called soma) from which cellular activity like repair or cell membrane recycling is controlled.
